Where Lilburn Comes Outside to Play: A Local's Guide to Our Parks, Trails & Lakes
There's a reason families put down roots in Lilburn and stay for decades. Tucked into just six square miles, our city packs in nearly 150 acres of developed park space — and that doesn't even count the county complexes and lakeside trails that sit right at our doorstep. After more than 20 years of helping people buy and sell homes here, I can tell you that "How far is the nearest park?" comes up in nearly every conversation. So consider this your insider's tour.
Whether you're chasing a toddler around a splash pad, walking the dog before work, coaching a Saturday ball game, or just looking for a quiet bench by the water, Lilburn has a spot for you. Here's where to find it.
Old Town's Living Room: Lilburn City Park
If Lilburn has a heartbeat, you'll feel it at Lilburn City Park. This 10-acre gem sits right in the middle of Old Town and serves as the community's gathering place for concerts, festivals, and lazy weekend afternoons.
What you'll find here:
- A lighted walking/jogging loop that circles a big open green
- A splash pad that's a summer lifesaver for the little ones
- A bandshell for live music and community events
- A large kids' playground, picnic pavilion, and restrooms
- Tennis courts and plenty of parking
- The trailhead for the Camp Creek Greenway (more on that below)
It's the kind of place where you bump into neighbors — exactly the small-town feel that draws so many buyers to this part of Gwinnett.
Four-Plus Miles of Shaded Pavement: Camp Creek Greenway
Ask longtime residents to name Lilburn's most treasured amenity, and many will point to the Camp Creek Greenway. This 4.2-mile paved, multi-use trail follows Camp Creek from Lilburn City Park out to Lions Club Park in one direction and toward Killian Hill Road in the other.
A few things that make it special:
- It's been designated a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat — keep an eye out for deer, foxes, owls, and herons
- Scenic boardwalk sections, including the first PermaTrak precast-concrete bridge in Georgia
- Mostly shaded and ADA-accessible, with short spur trails connecting to surrounding neighborhoods
- Trailhead parking at Lilburn City Park, Lions Club Park, and Velva Court
It's flat, family-friendly, and a favorite for runners, cyclists, and stroller-pushing parents alike.
The Big Sports Hub: Mountain Park Park
For organized sports and active families, Mountain Park Park is a workhorse. This 44-acre Gwinnett County park is built for action:
- Seven baseball/softball fields with a football field overlay
- A skate complex
- Six lighted tennis courts
- Multiple playgrounds and a pavilion with grills
- A 1-mile paved multi-purpose trail plus a soft-surface walking trail
If your kids play travel ball or you want serious court time, this is your home base.
Dogs, Skaters & Sluggers: J.B. Williams Park
A relative newcomer that quickly became a neighborhood favorite, J.B. Williams Park on Five Forks Trickum Road is 25 acres of something-for-everyone:
- Two dedicated dog parks — separate areas for large and small dogs
- A modern skate plaza with a tree-canopy observation deck
- A lighted baseball/softball field with a walking track
- A roughly ¾-mile paved trail looping through the meadow and woods
- A 14,000-square-foot playground, picnic pavilion, grills, and restrooms
- A community garden
If you've got a four-legged family member, this is the place locals rave about.
72 Acres on Jackson Creek: Bryson Park
Over on Lawrenceville Highway, Bryson Park gives the west side of Lilburn a true active-recreation anchor. Set along Jackson Creek, this 72-acre park offers:
- A football/multi-purpose field with a lighted track
- Two youth soccer fields
- A sand volleyball court and outdoor basketball courts
- A playground, pavilion, and grill
- A half-mile paved loop trail that winds the perimeter
It's clean, well-maintained, and roomy enough that you rarely feel crowded.
Take Me Out to the Ball Game: Lions Club Park
If you've ever spent a spring Saturday watching youth baseball in Lilburn, odds are you were at Lions Club Park. This 51-acre complex on Rockbridge Circle is a baseball town's pride:
- Five lighted baseball/softball fields with batting cages and a concession building
- An overlay football field
- A playground, pavilion, and grills
- A 0.8-mile paved loop trail that connects directly into the Camp Creek Greenway
The Greenway link means you can park here, watch a game, and stroll all the way to Old Town.
Where Are the Lakes? Head to Lake Erin at Henderson Park
Lilburn's own parks are built around its creeks — Camp Creek and Jackson Creek — rather than big open water, so if a true lake is what you're after, the closest one is a short hop south at Henderson Park in neighboring Tucker. It's a longtime favorite of Lilburn families and well worth the drive.
This roughly 110-acre park is centered on Lake Erin, and it delivers:
- Fishing for bass, bream, catfish, and crappie (a Georgia fishing license is required)
- Kayaking and an observation dock on the water
- About six miles of hiking trails, including a scenic loop around the lake
- A couple of hidden waterfalls tucked into the woods
- Soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, a community garden, and dog park areas
- A reputation among birders as one of the area's best spots for spring and fall migration
For a peaceful morning by the water without leaving the area, this is the spot.
The Bottom Line
From Old Town's splash pad to lakeside trails in Tucker, this corner of Gwinnett County makes it genuinely easy to live an outdoor life. That kind of access — green space, ball fields, dog parks, and quiet water all within a few minutes of home — is one of the quiet reasons Lilburn holds its appeal year after year.
If you'd like to talk about neighborhoods near any of these parks, I'd love to help. Knowing which streets back up to the Greenway or sit a short walk from City Park is exactly the kind of local detail that makes a difference when you're buying or selling.
